is one of the proud sponsors of the Susan G. Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure, a
5 kilometer (5K or 3.1 mile) race and a one mile run/walk to help promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for breast cancer
research. The NC Triangle Race for the Cure will take place on June 10, 2000 in
Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1999, over 8,200 runners and walkers participated in the NC
Triangle race, helping to raise more than $320,000 to support local breast cancer
education, screening, and treatment programs. In all, the Race for the Cure runs/fitness
walks will take place in 109 different U.S. cities in 2000.
"Imaginis.com is proud to be one of the sponsors of the 2000 NC Triangle Race for the Cure," said Shawl Lobree, President of Imaginis.com. Lobree participated in the North Carolina-based race in 1999 for the first time and has fond memories of the day. "At the end of the race, you realize that it is a celebration of life and victory, honoring those we have lost and applauding those we still have with us," said Lobree. Imaginis.com will also have a booth at the NC Triangle race where women and men can learn more about breast cancer.
The first Race for the Cure event was organized in Dallas, Texas in 1983. Seventeen years later, Race for the Cure is now the largest series of 5K runs in the United States. The 1998 National Race for the Cure in Washington, DC became the largest registered five-kilometer (5K) race in the world with a record field of more than 50,000 runners and walkers participating.
"I
would encourage everyone to participate in a Race for the Cure event as a runner,
walker, or spectator," said Lobree. "Breast cancer advocacy is a wonderful and
very important cause. But tapping into the energy of those breast cancer survivors in pink
and witnessing the triumph of the human spirit was an awesome, heart welling event that
everyone should get to experience at least once in their life." Race for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan Komen, who died from breast cancer at age 36. The Foundation is a national organization with a network of volunteers working through local chapters and Race for the Cure events throughout the United States, fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing research, education, screening and treatment.
Proceeds from the Race for the Cure series fund both national research efforts and local breast cancer initiatives. A majority of the proceeds fund local community programs related to breast health education, screening and treatment and are based on specific area needs determined by local Komen Foundation representatives. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds from each race fund national breast cancer research and project grants.
