is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating
cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing
suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service. The American
Cancer Society provides information on prevention, screening, diagnosis, and treatment of
cervical cancer.
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG, http://www.acog.org/) has over 4,000 physician members.
The ACOG serves as a strong advocate for quality health care for women, maintains high
standards of clinical practice and continuing education for its members, and promotes
patient education. A variety of resources on cervical cancer, Pap smear, HPV and more are
available on the ACOG website.
Hologic (http://www.hologic.com/) is
the manufacturer of the ThinPrep System that helps improve the effectiveness of Pap smear
in the detection of cervical cancer. Hologic provides information on Pap smear and cervical
cancer, including a physician directory, at http://www.thinprep.com.
There is also a separate section for medical

The Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF, http://www.wcn.org/gcf/)
was established by the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO) in 1991 as a nonprofit
charitable organization to raise funds to support philanthropic programs to benefit women
who have, or who are at risk for, developing a gynecologic cancer. The GCF raises
awareness, provides education, and supports promising, innovative gynecologic cancer
research.
The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO, http://www.figo.org/) is dedicated to promoting the
well-being of women and to raise the standard of practice in obstetrics and gynecology.
The FIGO website provides a wealth of information on cervical cancer and related issues.
The National Cancer Institute (http://cancernet.nci.nih.gov)
conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other
programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer,
rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of
cancer patients. The National Cancer Institute website maintains several documents on
cervical cancer and Pap smear.
The National Cervical Cancer Coalition (NCCC, http://www.nccc-online.org/) is a grass roots
campaign to educate the public about cervical cancer prevention and outreach, new
screening and treatment options, cervical cancer screening and follow-up programs, HPV,
and Pap smear. In addition to providing information on cervical cancer, the NCCC website
includes conference and event dates, upcoming projects, worldwide cervical cancer issues,
and more.
The National Women's Health Information Center (NWHIC, http://www.4woman.gov/) is a service of the Office on
Women's Health in the Department of Health and Human Services. The NWHIC provides a
gateway to the vast array of Federal and other women's health information resources.

information and resources on hysterectomy, gynecologic laparoscopy, Pap smear, cervical
dysplasia and related issues for both patients and professionals.

was founded in 1994 by Penn cancer specialists with a mission to help cancer patients,
families, health care professionals and the general public get accurate cancer-related
information. Oncolink provides detailed information on cervical cancer and other cancers.
Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) (http://www.bd.com/tripath/)
is the manufacturer of cervical cytology products that help improve the effectiveness of
Pap smear. BD provides information on Pap smear
and cervical cancer, including a cervical cancer dictionary, for both patients and
clinicians.
Womens Health Interactive (http://womens-health.com/)
helps women gain knowledge and mastery of their health through the multidisciplinary
resources that are offered for consumers and women's health professionals. Their
Gynecologic Health Center provides information on Pap smear, cervical cancer and other
